EU PPWR Packaging Regulation 2026: How Sellers Union Group Prepares for EU Export Compliance
As the European Union introduces stricter packaging and sustainability requirements, EU packaging compliance is becoming an increasingly important consideration for global importers, retailers, and exporters.
To help its business teams better understand these regulatory changes and prepare for potential compliance challenges, Sellers Union Group held a specialized training session on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) on September 21, 2026.
Organized by the Group's Risk Control and Audit Department, the session brought together more than 60 employees from Ningbo, Yiwu, Hangzhou, and other locations. Stella Hu, a Quality Control specialist from Union Source, was invited to share regulatory insights and practical compliance guidance.
Understanding the EU PPWR Packaging Regulation 2026
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Regulation (EU) 2025/40, was published on January 22, 2025, and entered into force on February 11, 2025. Its main provisions became applicable on August 12, 2026, replacing the previous EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.
The regulation introduces new requirements designed to reduce packaging waste, improve recyclability, and promote more sustainable packaging practices across the European market.
For international suppliers, exporters, and European buyers, understanding the PPWR is an important part of managing regulatory risks throughout the supply chain.
Depending on the applicable requirements and implementation timelines, packaging non-compliance may lead to customs clearance issues, restrictions on product sales, marketplace delistings, product recalls, or customer claims.
These developments highlight the growing importance of packaging compliance in international sourcing, product development, and EU market access.
Turning EU Packaging Requirements into Practical Compliance Actions
The training focused on three key areas: regulatory interpretation, practical compliance strategies, and interactive discussions.
During the regulatory briefing, Stella Hu introduced the major changes under the PPWR, including its scope, core compliance requirements, implementation considerations across major EU markets, and requirements relating to packaging testing and supporting documentation.
The practical session addressed several important topics for businesses involved in exporting products to the EU:
- Packaging Testing: Understanding testing requirements, associated costs, and how to assess the suitability of test reports.
- Compliance Documentation: Reviewing the essential elements of a valid Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and common documentation errors.
- Regulatory Risk Management: Identifying potential packaging compliance issues before products enter the European market.
- Practical Guidance for Exporters: Translating regulatory requirements into actionable steps for daily business operations.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, allowing participants to discuss real-world challenges and explore practical approaches to EU packaging compliance.
Strengthening Compliance Awareness in Global Sourcing and Export Operations
For a global sourcing and trading company like Sellers Union Group, keeping pace with international regulatory developments is an important part of supporting reliable cross-border business operations.
The training helped strengthen employees' understanding of EU packaging regulations and reinforced the importance of identifying compliance requirements early in the sourcing and export process.
By improving regulatory awareness among its business teams, Sellers Union Group aims to support more informed communication with suppliers and overseas customers, while reducing potential compliance risks associated with international trade.
Supporting Global Trade Through Continuous Compliance Readiness
As sustainability and product compliance expectations continue to evolve in international markets, Sellers Union Group remains committed to strengthening regulatory awareness and risk management across its business operations.
Moving forward, the Group will continue monitoring developments in the EU PPWR and other relevant European regulations, helping its teams stay informed and better prepared to address changing requirements.
Through ongoing knowledge sharing and practical compliance training, Sellers Union Group aims to provide a more reliable sourcing and trading experience for its global business partners.
